44 Special for Home Defence

What do you think of the 44 special round for home defence?
Fired out of a 44 magnum revolver...
Be well.

It would probably work quite nicely, as long as you don't need a dozen or so rounds to feel "safe." Speer Gold Dot hollowpoint is a nice load:

Plenty capable. I keep a S&W 696-1 in my nightstand. Loaded with 200gr XTP's.

I assume that the recoil is managable?
Be well.

Yes, recoil is nothing to worry about. Best thing to do is go shoot some for yourself. Owning a reloading press is a good idea if your going to be shooting a lot of 44 spcl. The store bought self defense rounds like gold dot are crazy expensive.
